Branch of Hope
The Branch of Hope Apartments on Chicago's south side demonstrate the promise of bringing clean, affordable energy to the subsidized housing sector through geothermal building systems.
The development consists of two mirror-image buildings totaling 65,000 square feet of living space and common areas. Two geothermal energy fields of 15 energy wells each serve the buildings. In each apartment there is an in-wall geothermal heat pump, which gives the tenant individual climate control, as well as the ability to heat or cool independently year round.
The owner/operator of the Branch of Hope Apartments will enjoy more than 50% annual savings on heating and cooling costs while reducing the buildings' carbon footprint.
